Welcome to the Office of Learning & Development, where we truly believe knowledge is power! The office is responsible for providing city agency training and personal development opportunities for City of Baltimore employees. Our objective is to offer cutting-edge training programs that continually develop and propel employees forward. We embrace comprehensive instructional design principles and continuously improve our curriculum to meet the changing needs of our diverse workforce. We offer virtual learning, classroom instruction, and hybrid options, free of charge for all City of Baltimore employees*.

ACCREDITATION
We are currently in the prestigious and rigorous process of seeking our International Accreditors for Continuing Education and Training (IACET) accreditation. IACET developed the original Continuing Education Unit (CEU) and ensures that continuing education and training providers can prove they provide high-quality instruction by following the ANSI/IACET Standard for Continuing Education and Training.

CONTENT & OPPORTUNITIES
Our learning library contains about 250 videos, courses, and instructor-led training opportunities on a wide array of topics. Nearly all new employees start their learning journey with New Employee Orientation (NEO), a comprehensive overview of the City. From there, employees are encouraged to enroll in additional impactful courses for their personal and professional development or job-related training.

Popular courses include Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion content, Essentials of Customer Service, Excel Training, Defensive Driving, Developing Emotional Intelligence, and many more. In addition, many of our courses qualify for continuing education credits (CEU) from a variety of industry leaders such as the Society of Human Resources (SHRM), Lean Six Sigma, National Association of State Boards of Accountancy (NASBA), and Project Management Institute (PMI). We also partner to deliver content by Franklin Covey, DiSC, and more.

Learning & Development is also supporting the City-wide implementation of our new cloud-based technology, Workday. Collaborating with change management and Workday subject matter experts, Learning & Development can assist in training coordination, clarification of content, and job aid creation.

TYPES OF LEARNING
We have three main types of learning methods to offer city employees, classroom/instructor-led, virtual and hybrid.

• Classroom and instructor-led training will always remain great ways to facilitate discussion and ensure participation. Our facilities allow for both small and large groups with or without a technology component. Our training team and subject matter experts are engaging, and resourceful and will ensure a robust learner experience.   
• Virtual Learning has been a significant area of focus for Learning & Development. While no single medium is best for every situation or every type of training, virtual learning provides a unique element by allowing learners to access training anytime and anywhere at their own pace. In addition, virtual learning has allowed training to be more readily available to all City employees regardless of their working schedule.  
• The hybrid option encourages a component of both classroom instruction, and online learning, and promotes discussion.
